Leading commercial law firm Hill Dickinson has relocated its Birmingham office to Gilbanks at Five St Philips as it marks its second anniversary and a period of strong growth in the city.
The firm has taken over more than 2,000 sq ft on the second floor of the recently opened Five St Philips building in Birmingham’s Colmore Row business district.
Having launched in the city in February 2024, the firm’s Birmingham-based team has more than doubled to 25 colleagues covering corporate, real estate and real estate litigation. A new corporate dispute resolution team also joined the office last April.
With the rapid pace of expansion meaning Hill Dickinson needed a larger office in the city, Gilbanks at Five St Philips will provide the firm with the additional capacity and flexibility it needs to support future expansion, building out its business services offering.
The move forms part of a broader programme of investment across Hill Dickinson’s 12 office bases in the UK and internationally. The firm, which has delivered an eight consecutive year of growth, relocated its Manchester office to One St Michael’s – developed by Gary Neville’s Relentless Group – last summer. It is also in the process of moving its Monaco-based team to new facilities close to the city’s iconic harbour.
The Birmingham move will continue to support Hill Dickinson’s carbon reduction plan, with Five St Philips having achieved BREEAM Excellent certification.
Craig Scott, CEO at Hill Dickinson, said: “Birmingham is a strategically important market for us and a key part of our long-term growth strategy – providing a bridge between our thriving London offices and our regional bases in the North. The success of the office in just two years demonstrates the strength of our model and the depth of talent we’ve attracted. This relocation underlines our commitment to embedding ourselves in the region while ensuring we have the right environment in place to continue building a marketing-leading practice in the Midlands.”
Nick Dawson, partner and head of Hill Dickinson’s Birmingham office, added: “Since launching in Birmingham in 2024, we’ve achieved exceptional growth both in terms of our people and our client base. We outgrew our previous space far sooner than expected, so this move is a positive next step. Gilbanks at Five St Philips gives us a high-quality, flexible working environment that reflects our ambitions in the city and supports our plans for continued growth.
“Five St Philips has attracted a growing number of professional services firms since opening, and we’re looking forward to continuing our presence at the heart of Birmingham’s Colmore Row business community.”
Alex Duckett, managing director at Gilbanks, said: “The arrival of Hill Dickinson underlines Five St Philips’ appeal to established advisory firms, and we’re delighted to welcome Hill Dickinson. They are an excellent fit for the professional community we’re building here. The move reflects the building’s success and the growing demand for high-quality workspace among professional services firms in Birmingham. We are looking forward to supporting their team as they continue to grow.”
